“3 Idiots” is a 2009 Indian coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Rajkumar Hirani and written by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi. It was inspired by the novel “Five Point Someone” by Chetan Bhagat. The film stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Omi Vaidya, Parikshit Sahni, and Boman Irani.
The story follows the lives of three engineering students – Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi), and Ranchoddas “Rancho” Chanchad (Aamir Khan) – who attend the Imperial College of Engineering. Farhan and Raju are roommates and close friends, while Rancho is a mysterious and eccentric genius who becomes their friend.

As they approach graduation, the three friends face a major crisis when Rancho suddenly disappears. Farhan and Raju begin a search for their friend, and eventually discover that he has returned to his hometown in the mountains. Rancho reveals to them that he had become disillusioned with the education system and society’s focus on grades and material success, and decided to leave it all behind to pursue his true passion of teaching and helping others. Farhan and Raju are inspired by Rancho’s decision and begin to re-evaluate their own lives and priorities.
